Who We Are


Glacier and Volcano Expeditions is an owner operator company based in Öræfi, Southeast Iceland. The owners and Rowan and Guðný who both grew up enjoying the wilderness which sparked a passion that has led to a professional career of guiding. Both Rowan and Guðný now have a decade of guiding experience each and are both active members of the Iceland search and rescue team. You can read more about who they are here.

  • All guides are Wilderness first responder (WFR) or pre hospital emergency care (PHEC) certified and currently studying to become professional EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians)

  • Certified day tour provider by Ferðamálastofa

  • Glacier tour operators licence for Vatnajökull National Park

  • Samgöngustofa: Permission to operate tours on water with kayaks

  • Whitewater Rescue Technician (WRT) certified

  • New Zealand Mountain Guiding Association (NZMGA) hard ice guiding certification (HIG)
