Who We Are

Glacier and Volcano Expeditions is an owner-operator company based in Öræfi, Southeast Iceland. The owners are Rowan and Guðný who both grew up enjoying the wilderness which sparked a passion that has led to a professional career of guiding. Both Rowan and Guðný have over a decade of guiding experience each and are both active members of the Iceland Search and Rescue team. You can read more about who they are here.

  • All guides are Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Pre Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC) certified and professional EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians).

  • Certified day tour provider by Ferðamálastofa.

  • Glacier tour operators licence for Vatnajökull National Park.

  • Samgöngustofa: Permission to operate tours on water with kayaks.

  • Whitewater Rescue Technician (WRT) certified.

  • New Zealand Mountain Guiding Association (NZMGA) hard ice guiding certification (HIG).
